What is Crohn’s Disease?
Crohn’s Disease (CD) is an inflammatory bowel disease (#IBD)
Most often diagnosed in adolescents & adults 20-30 years.
CD can affect any part of the #gastrointestinal (GI) tract from - mouth to anus
What are the different types of CD?
#Ileocolitis (affects only the ileum)
#Gastroduodenal (stomach & duodenum)
#Jejunoileitis ( jejunum)
#CrohnsColitis (colon)
What is the treatment for CD?
Medication and diet to reduce #inflammation and bring on remission. In some cases, surgery may be required to treat CD and complications.
Diet plays an important role both during a flare as well as in remission.
Research shows that diet can aid to decrease inflammation and induce remission in CD.
How can diet help during a flair/remission?
By removing foods that may change the bacteria in your gut and promote inflammation, while increasing other foods that provide fibre and resistant starch which help to reduce inflammation #cded #EEN.
